1. Introduction

Driving Practice UK ("we", "us", "our") provides a mobile application and supporting website (drivingpractice.live) that helps UK learner drivers practise observation, mirror checks and decision-making between lessons.

This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Data controller: Driving Practice UK. Contact: support.drivingpractice@gmail.com.

2. Data we collect

Account data (if you create an account in the app): email address, display name, profile photo (optional), authentication identifier from Apple Sign In or Google Sign In where used.

Usage data: scenarios attempted, answers given, scores, weak areas, test-history, settings, time of activity, anonymous coach-assessment responses you provide on the website.

Device & technical data: device model, operating-system version, language, region, app version, anonymous device identifier, IP address (for security and abuse prevention), approximate location derived from IP for region selection only.

Purchase data: receipts and subscription status returned by Apple App Store, Google Play and RevenueCat (see §4). We do NOT receive your card number — payments are processed entirely by Apple or Google.

Support data: messages you send to support.drivingpractice@gmail.com.

3. Why we use your data (lawful basis under UK GDPR)

Performance of a contract — to provide the service you signed up for (Art. 6(1)(b)).

Legitimate interests — to keep the product secure, prevent fraud, debug crashes, measure aggregate product usage and improve the learning experience (Art. 6(1)(f)).

Consent — for optional features and any analytics that go beyond what is strictly necessary, where required by law (Art. 6(1)(a)).

Legal obligation — to keep accounting and tax records relating to purchases (Art. 6(1)(c)).

4. In-app purchases, subscriptions and RevenueCat

Paid plans (Plus, Test Ready Pass) are sold as Apple in-app purchases on iOS and Google Play in-app purchases on Android. Payment is taken by Apple or Google under their own terms and privacy policies — we never see or store your card details.

We use RevenueCat, Inc. as a processor to verify your receipt, manage your subscription status across devices and provide entitlements inside the app. RevenueCat processes a pseudonymous app-user ID, receipt data, subscription status and product identifiers on our behalf.

5. Analytics

We collect a small set of product-analytics events to understand how learners use the service. Examples: landing_visit, try_free_click, coach_started, coach_completed, scenario_completed, app_download_click.

These events are stored in our own database against a pseudonymous visitor ID generated on first visit. They do NOT contain your name or email and are used only in aggregate to improve the product.

We currently do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel or any third-party advertising trackers on the website.

6. Crash reporting and diagnostics

If the mobile app crashes, your device may send a crash report to Apple or Google in line with the diagnostic settings you have chosen at OS level. We may also use a crash-reporting service (such as Sentry or Apple/Google's built-in tools) to receive anonymised stack traces, device model and app version so we can fix bugs.

Crash reports do not contain the content of your scenarios or your account email.

7. How we share data

We do not sell your personal data.

We share data with the following categories of processors strictly to run the service: hosting and database providers (MongoDB Atlas / Emergent infrastructure), Apple, Google, RevenueCat, our email provider, and a crash-reporting provider if enabled.

We may also share data where required by law, in response to a valid legal request, or to protect the rights, safety or property of Driving Practice UK and its users.

8. International transfers

Some processors are based outside the UK (e.g. RevenueCat in the United States). Where data is transferred outside the UK or EEA we rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or Standard Contractual Clauses to protect it.

9. Data retention

Account data: kept for as long as you have an account, then deleted within 30 days of account closure (we may keep minimal records longer if required by law, e.g. for tax).

Usage and analytics events: kept for up to 24 months in identifiable form, then aggregated or deleted.

Support emails: kept for up to 24 months.

Receipts and purchase records: kept for at least 6 years to meet UK tax law.

10. Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the right to: access your data, ask us to correct inaccurate data, ask us to delete your data, object to processing, restrict processing, request portability of data you have provided, and withdraw consent at any time where we rely on consent.

To exercise any of these rights, email support.drivingpractice@gmail.com from the address linked to your account. We will respond within one month.

You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at https://ico.org.uk/.

11. Children

The minimum age to hold a UK provisional driving licence is 15 years and 9 months. The service is intended for users aged 16 or over. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) between the app, the website and our servers. Data at rest is held in managed, access-controlled databases. We restrict employee access to personal data on a need-to-know basis. No internet service is 100% secure, but we work hard to protect your information.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version is always available at https://drivingpractice.live/privacy. Material changes will be notified inside the app or by email where appropriate.

14. Contact us
